TECHNICAL INSTRUCTIONS
In technical details, IJIS follows the simplified APA format, with some modifications.
The main text should be sent in as a non-formatted Word file (single spaced, flush left) in English. You should not use a hyphenation program, a footnote program or any special printing formats. You may send an additional Word or Adobe file or a printed copy of the text in which one can see the layout as you would like to have it (structure, tables, and so on).
The main text should be structured as follows:
Title of the contribution Name of the author(s) Affiliations: Department, institution, city, e-mail for primary contact Abstract: 100 to 200 words Key words: 5-10 Text: Each article needs to conform to the following basic compositional structure:
1. Introduction 2. Theoretical elaboration of the empirical research question 3. Concisely worded research question—what is it that the researcher wants to find out through the given case study(ies)? 4. Description of the selection of the case 5. Methods/Procedures of investigation 6. Results 7. Discussion. Focus on the generalized knowledge that emerges from the Results. 8. Acknowledgments 9. Notes 10. References
The following conventions can be used in the text:
Headings The headings in the text are to be numbered consecutively, main headings with 1., 2., 3. and so on; sub-headings with 1.1, 1.2, and so on; further sub-headings with respectively 1.1.1, 1.1.2 etc. The headings are separated from the text with one line before and after the heading (irrespective of the degree of specification).
Paragraphs. The paragraphs in the text are consecutive, without additional lines. At the end of each paragraph the paragraph number is to be given consecutively in brackets [1], [2], [3] etc. We need this system of numbering as these numbers (rather than regular page numbers) will serve as the basis for citation of specific aspects of the work.
Emphases. An emphasis within the text is to be marked in italics.
Acknowledgments (optional)
Notes: please number the notes consecutively in agreement with the numbering in the text
References: All references given in the text include author’s last name, year of publication of the cited paper, and (when direct quotation, or specific relevant idea) page number:
“…as Konnapea (1999, p. 345) demonstrated,….”
“as Kaerajaan, Kergemees & Tore (1995) claim…”
If the cited paper has more than three authors, the text citation can use the first author’s name followed by et.al:
“As Konn et.al. (1956, p. 3) claimed, …”
All of the literature citations which are given in the text should be included in the bibliography and the bibliography should only have the literature which is mentioned in the text.
The References list is to be organized alphabetically by the names of the first authors. In case of reference to more than one publication by the same author, the order is ascending in correspondence to the publication year. When citing several publications of one author from the same year, then these are to be marked (at the end of the citation) with a, b, c etc. in accordance to their appearance in the text.
In the bibliography, monographs must include the title of the book; for contributions within an edited book, the title of the edited book; and for contributions from journals, the title of the journal. All titles should be in cursive style. Additionally, if possible, in those cases translations that are cited, the original title should be added to the end of the citation with the complete bibliographic information.
Examples:
– Book Sprout, J. (1980). Impossibility of single case based science. New York: Unfree Press. – Editor as author Moonlighter, J. (Ed.) (1992). My big brother: a case analysis. . Antarctic City: Penguin. – Article in an edited book Fool, N. G. (1993). Again that N=1! . In J. Sceptic (Ed.), Researching science (pp.154-171). Libreville: New Horizons Press. – Journal article Looterfield, P. F. (2004). Some remarks on the uselessness of samples in the social sciences. Zeitschrift für allgemeine Nonsensologie, 7, 119-139.
Author information: brief biographical information. The authors should give at least some information about their backgrounds of interest in single-case based methodologies, and information about current work in progress (rather than the listing of honors and accomplishments of the past). At the very least, the complete postal address should be included, and if existent: the URL for the Web site and the e-mail address.
An example:
Jan van Totzijns is currently professor of Department of Psychology of Federal University of Antarctica. His current project is an in-depth study of the relationship of the local people with penguins, for which idiographic science methodology is used. E-mail: Jtotzijns@psych.uniantarctica.nl
Appendix: (optional)
Illustrations, tables and graphics Illustrations, tables and graphics should be numbered consecutively in the text as Table 1, Table 2 etc. or rather Illustration 1, Illustration 2 etc. and additionally be given a title. The tables, illustrations and graphics are to be sent as extra documents (if applicable as GIF or JPEG files) to the Editorial Staff. It is important that space markers for overviews, tables and graphical material in the text are numbered accordingly and that the numbers and titles are identical in the non textual files.
Audio and video materials. IJIS will include as supportive materials examples of evidence in audio and/or video formats. The audio or video files should be sent as attachments in standard formats (.wav, .mp3, .mpg, .mov, etc.) and their placements in the article should be indicated in the same manner as tables or graphics (titled, and numbered). | ||
